Elyn R. Saks
Elyn R. Saks is the Associate Dean and Orrin B. Evans Professor of Law, Psychology, and Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California Gould Law School. Elyn, herself, suffers from Schizophrenia and is the founder of The Saks Institute for Mental Health Law, Policy, and Ethics.
Elyn received a 2014 grant from The Sidney R. Baer, Jr. Foundation. With her awarded funds she was able to put on a Distinguished Lecture and one-day symposium on the topic of mental health disorders in college and university students. She also established a postdoc scholar as well as an individual pilot research project to provide focused energy on the issues associated with Schizophrenia and mental illness across a variety of areas.
Elyn’s efforts and resulting research have made outstanding strides in the world of social support for Schizophrenic individuals. She has devoted her time to ensuring a more understanding society where the barriers caused by mental illness are overcome through greater knowledge and shared community support.
Elyn is an outspoken advocate for overcoming misconceptions about schizophrenia, what is means to suffer from the disorder, and how it is treated.
