St. Patricks Center
The 2014 grant awarded to St. Patrick’s Center from The Sidney R. Baer, Jr. Foundation was used in support of the Shamrock Club Mental Health Improvement Initiative.
The fund allowed St. Patricks Center to provide psychiatric treatment for 42 Shamrock Club participants. The Shamrock Club Day Treatment program provides assistance for homeless individuals who experience mental illness and/or substance abuse. The individuals who received psychiatric services as part of the Mental Health Improvement Initiative do not have insurance, and most likely would not have been able to access these services elsewhere. The Intensive Case Management program director put it best when they said: “Psychiatric services help clients to get their heads above water, which then gives them the ability to address other problems in their lives that they were able to deal with before receiving those psychiatric services.”
The Shamrock Club is one of the key programs of St. Patrick’s Center. People who suffer from mental illness and/or substance abuse have access to the agency’s treatment programs and its complete continuum of care.
People who are homeless come to St. Patrick Center to meet with Intake Counselors. These counselors collect basic information from clients’ self-reported histories and input this data into the agency’s Client Information Tracking System. Counselors also look for clues that may indicate mental illness, substance abuse or co-occurring disorders of addiction and mental illness. Without funds from The Sidney R. Baer, Jr. Foundation the Club would not have been able to touch 42 lives in 2015.
